For years, we've been awed by how teachers have used Goodnotes so creatively to transform learning and inspire students. Their passion and ingenuity sparked an idea that we're excited to unveil today: a brand new solution designed specifically for teaching, Goodnotes Classroom.

With Goodnotes Classroom, we wanted to build on existing best practices with digital note-taking, combine that with AI functionality and design a new experience with K-12 teachers at the forefront of our thinking. Over the past year, we've worked hand-in-hand with teachers, students, and school communities to bring that vision to life.

Goodnotes Classroom has been carefully designed to streamline workflows, enhance student engagement, and empower educators to deliver more personalized and impactful learning experiences.

So without further ado, here’s what’s possible with Goodnotes Classroom.

Meet Goodnotes Classroom

Goodnotes Classroom is the new way to connect with each student, grade papers faster, and make lessons even more collaborative and engaging.

Here’s how Goodnotes Classroom can help transform the teaching and learning experience.

Stay connected to each and every student

See what students are doing and understand their thinking as they work.

We know that teachers often find themselves in a one to twenty (or thirty) ratio, where it can be difficult to suitably differentiate while keeping clear track of each students' style of learning and their grasp of the topic. You might have some students that are more vocal, and others that are more quiet.

In Lessons created using Goodnotes Classroom, you are easily able to stay on top of how each student is doing. The Class Navigator allows you to view (and annotate on) each student’s page in real-time right from your iPad.

In other words, whether you’re at the front of the class or monitoring activities, you have the ability to look into the real-time progress and thinking of each student, giving you a better sense of how your entire class is doing. From there, if you see someone going off track, you can jump in to course-correct directly on their page.

You also have the ability to easily present student’s work from your iPad, and incorporate student answers into lessons. For instance, when you see an exemplary answer from a student, you can choose to showcase it on the big screen – anonymously or with the student’s name attached. That gives you the ability to shine a light on some of the quieter students that might not always feel brave enough to raise their hands. On the flip side, if there’s a problem many students are finding difficult, you can work through it together as well.

“With Goodnotes Classroom, everyone has access to the [lesson] and they can all write [their answers] right away. And I can just show it up on the screen. I can swipe through everyone’s work one-by-one, and no one has to come up. This really saves time, because I can make sure every group [of students] has the same right to showcase their work.”

- Ms. Noor Khan, English and Global Education teacher at Caritas Wu Cheng-Chung College

Bridge the gap between handwriting and technology

Give you and your students the freedom and creativity of handwriting, without sacrificing the benefits of cutting-edge tech.

You no longer have to choose between assigning something easy to mark (like typed work) and something more freeform or creative (like diagrams, mind maps, pictures or graphs). Say goodbye to painstakingly taking photos of students’ work, because now with Goodnotes Classroom, you can allow students to write freely on digital paper, and let technology help you keep everything organized, easier to grade, and streamlined to one platform.

Allow your students to express themselves however they need – with the ability to draw diagrams, add images, links, diagrams or even stickers to their answers. Whatever format their work takes, you also have the freedom to add feedback anywhere on the page by hand – and of course, leave that personal touch that comes with handwriting.

All the content and notebooks within Class Folders are automatically shared 1:1 from teacher to student. That means that regardless of the format your students have done their work in, it’ll be readily available in one spot for you to review. For students, that means they can focus more on participating in class rather than having to copy everything the teacher is saying.

“I can see when my students are using Goodnotes, they’re not just enjoying all the different functions of the app – at the same time they’re writing very very naturally, just like on paper.”

- Mr. Dion Chen, Principal at Ying Wa College

Save hours on grading with AI

Make grading a breeze with AI-powered features designed to help you mark more quickly and accurately.

Sometimes grading can feel unending. By the time you’re finished, you don’t have the bandwidth to think about whether there was a common mistake or misunderstanding in everyone’s work.

Goodnotes Classroom introduces several features to make grading easier for teachers.

First, you have the ability to mark by question. Goodnotes Classroom can extract the answers to each question and allow you to mark by question, instead of marking by student. That means you can easily mark all the question 1s, all the question 2s, and so forth, all on one screen.

You can also choose to provide a model answer (either your own or a student’s), and have AI compare everyone else’s answer against it. Goodnotes Classroom will group answers based on how similar they are. From there, you can assign grades in bulk for each group, saving you precious time.

That being said, you as the teacher are still in full control: you can manually adjust student answers into different groups and provide individual grades or feedback as needed.

In addition to helping you grade more effectively, you can now more easily spot trends in student answers. For instance, if you see that many students have given incorrect answers for one specific question, this insight can help you determine which areas require further attention and reinforcement in following lessons.

“It’s saved me a lot of time by having AI tools to help me reduce workload in grading, and instead I can spend more time on different students.”

- Mr. Toby Lam, Integrated Science and Mathematics teacher at Ying Wa College
